Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner top fans’ favorite charts to win the 2024 Miami Open. The duo garnered praise from fans due to their recent form, with Daniil Medvedev lurking behind because of his last year’s Miami victory at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Sinner and Alcaraz have both taken the tennis world by storm in recent weeks. Sinner, with only one loss this season, is one of the favorites to win major tournaments.
However, Alcaraz is the only player to have defeated the Italian this season. Just a week ago, both players met at the Indian Wells semifinals. Sinner won the first set without a response from Alcaraz, but in the second set, all that changed with a furious display by the Spaniard, winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Alcaraz went on to beat Daniil Medvedev in the final to claim his first title of the season. However, the 20-year-old would be aiming for the Sunshine Doubles win, which may come at a huge price. Medvedev, who has been to two finals and one semifinal this season, is reeling from his disappointing losses this season. And will be willing to fight to retain the Miami Open title.
The ATP Tour posted a video on Instagram where they asked fans who was their favorite player to win the Miami Open. Many fans’s favorites were Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, while some said Medvedev and only one fan said Ben Shelton.
In the second part of the video, fans were asked who had the best Miami swag. Fans chose different players such as Tommy Paul, Chris Eubanks, Andy Murray, and Dan Evans, with few mentioning Alcaraz or Sinner.
Both young talents have started their Miami Open campaign on a high note. Alcaraz defeated his fellow countryman Roberto Carballes Baena 6-2, 6-1, while Sinner beat Hungarian Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-4.
Jannik Sinner survived a scare from Tallon Griekspoor as he moves into the fourth round of the Miami Open
Jannik Sinner defeated a tricky Tallon Griekspoor to win his second match in the Miami Open. The Italian took control of the match after rain forced the players off the court after the first set. Last year’s runners-up, Sinner, won 5-7, 7-5, and 6-1 in two hours and twenty-three minutes.
The World No. 2 maintained his unbeatable record against the Dutch No. 26. He will face Australian Christopher O’Connell in the fourth round of the Florida-based tournament. The Italian has two titles this season and will be hoping to add the Miami title amongst many this season.
