Carlos Alcaraz will be playing the first-round match against Flavio Cobolli in Roland Garros. The 20-year-old will be entering the major as the World No.1 after reclaiming the title from Novak Djokovic. During the press conference in Paris, Alcaraz stated that it would be an amazing opportunity to play doubles with Rafael Nadal at the Paris Olympics.
With three trophies on the clay and a total of five ATP singles titles this year, the World No.1 is depicting ‘perfect form’ for the Roland Garros. At the press conference in Paris, the Spaniard said that he has attained more ‘maturity’ as a player and is mentally prepared for the upcoming French Open. On the question of his participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Alcaraz expressed his dream of playing a doubles match along with his fellow national, Rafael Nadal.
“For me, it could be a dream playing doubles with him in the Olympics. So, of course, let’s see. Let’s see how he’s doing and how he’s going in this year. Hopefully, you know, he’s going great. But yeah, for me it could be a dream,” he said.
Carlos Alcaraz receives praise from John McEnroe ahead of Roland Garros
Carlos Alcaraz has claimed three out of five singles titles on the clay surface in this season. With Rafael Nadal out of the French Open, World No.1 is the leading favorite for the championship in Paris. The former tennis player, John McEnroe, stated that the 20-year-old has better chance to win the French Open.
During the interview with Eurosport, John McEnroe stated that the era of ‘Big Three’ is coming to an end. He said that the championship in Paris will be an exciting one, with the young players leading the tournament. On the questions of potential contenders, the 64-year-old said that Alcaraz has a ‘better chance’ of winning the French Open.
“The young bucks are finally starting to emerge, but you have to wait and see if they’re mentally ready to you know, Alcaraz proved he was at the US Open but now you have to see if Rune is capable of making that step to win something like this, but right now if you asked me, I would say Alcaraz would be the slight favorite to win this,” McEnroe said.
Alcaraz earlier reached the semi-finals at Miami Open but lost the wonderful battle to Jannik Sinner.
