Geneva Open is the final clay event before we enter the Roland Garros. The stakes are high. The event may not give you many points. However, it gives players a much-needed confidence boost before the Paris mega event. Players are all set to fight it out in the Geneva Open final. Both Grigor Dimitrovand Nicolas Jarry are mercurial players and would know the importance of winning this one.
Dimitrov hasn’t had the best of seasons. Apart from a semi-final run in Rotterdam, it has been a below-average 2023 for the Bulgarian. This Geneva Open finale gives him an opportunity to turn his 2023 season round and move into the second half with confidence. His Geneva Open campaign has been a solid one though. With a few clinical wins and an impressive semi-final against American Taylor Fritz, the Bulgarian will certainly be going into this match with decent momentum.
On the other hand, Nicolas Jarry has had a mixed season. A semi-final in Rio and that backed up with a tournament win in Chile. However, apart from that it’s been a poor season with a few injury pullouts and multiple first-round exits. However, a final in Geneva gives him an opportunity too. He has come to this stage with impressive wins knocking out top seed Casper Ruud and German aceAlexander Zverev.
Jarry and Dimitrov have only met once before. The former won that contest in a three-set thriller. The match took place 4 years ago in Barcelona. The surface was clay. Dimitrov had won the first set 6-2. However, Jarry wasn’t here to give it easily. Bounced back taking the second 6-4. He looked solid in the decider as he took the game into a tiebreaker. He comfortably won it, but the match in general was not an easy one.
Nicolas Jarry vs Grigor Dimitrov: Prediction
Dimitrov has played more such finals than Jarry has. The experience of such finals is invaluable. However, the head-to-head clash, and past form all suggest that the odds are in favor of the Chile pro. He beat Dimitrov on the same surface earlier. The fact that he beat two former Grand Slam finalists on his way to the final will also boost his morale. Dimitrov certainly won’t be a pushover as it has been a while since he has won an event. He will be targeting this one big time. However, backing Jarry to take this in three.
Prediction: Nicolas Jarry to win in three sets
