As the tennis world awaits the start of the US Open 2023, defending champion Carlos Alcaraz has dismissed any particular feelings related to his championship defense. The 20-year-old Spaniard, who won his first Grand Slam title at the same tournament last year, is calm and focused on his preparations.
In a recent statement, Alcaraz stated that the title of “defending champion” means nothing to him as he prepares for the upcoming event. He said, “Honestly, it doesn’t feel different. I feel the same as coming into a normal tournament. I’m just focusing on practicing, and practicing well, and being as ready as I can before the tournament starts.“
Alcaraz’s ability to maintain his cool temperament in the face of increased expectations is noteworthy. He won his first Grand Slam victory at the US Open exactly a year ago, defeating Casper Ruud. “I try not to think about being the defending champion and that I won last year. I just focus on this year and the first round,” he said.
Alcaraz’s rise has been nothing short of stratospheric in the months after his victory. He won Wimbledon earlier this year, solidifying his place as a rising star in the tennis world.
Alcaraz and Swiatek Team Up for Fun Ahead of US Open Title Defense
Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek joined together for a friendly exhibition at the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day event, prior to the US Open. The duo played an enthusiastic game of ‘Tennis Soccer’ against the guys of the popular YouTube channel Dude Perfect, providing a refreshing look into their personality off the court.
Alcaraz and Swiatek, both reigning US Open champions in their respective categories, showed off their lighter sides as they took part in the one-of-a-kind event. The two stars formed a dynamic duo against their opponents.
As they prepare for the slam, Alcaraz and Swiatek are focused on defending their championships. The top seed in the men’s division, Alcaraz, is slated to begin his campaign against German player Dominik Koepfer. The 20-year-old Spaniard, who is regarded as a favorite for the tournament, will attempt to win his third Grand Slam title. However, he will be up against Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Holger Rune, all of whom are competing for glory on the same platform.
