World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz recently revealed to the entire world how he had tipped Alexander Zverev about the tactics to beat Russian Daniil Medvedev. Alcaraz now considers himself foolish and absolutely naive about his past actions after the German player ousted Medvedev in the round of 16 stages of the ongoing Cincinnati Masters.

Alcaraz had just beaten Daniil at the recently played Wimbledon Championships. They faced each other in the semi-finals, with the Spaniard facing very little competition from Daniil and progressing to the final in straight sets. While speaking to one of the Spanish press, Carlos talked about the conversation Zverev and he had as both of them were staying quite close to one another’s room during the Cincinnati tournament

While both of them were traveling to the golf course, Zverev asked a couple of go-to questions, among which one was regarding Carlos’ approach during his Wimbledon matchup against Medvedev. Carlos answered, “He told me that I had just come off a very comfortable win against Daniil, and he asked me what was the right tactic. How did I do it? And you know, I’m a nice kid. I think I’m a bit naive in that way, so I told him how I approached the match.”

Zverev is a true mastermind when it comes to playing tennis in a tactical way, and the same goes for Medvedev, who loves to wear down opponents, taking the game to the absolute end. Both of the tennis stars have faced each other a total of 16 times in the past, ahead of their round of 16 Cincinnati Masters matchups. And Zverev was on a three-consecutive losing streak, trying to figure out ways to beat the Russian.

Zverev had the best of Medvedev during their first four meetings, but in the later years, Medvedev studied German to spot his weaknesses, allowing the German to win only once in their last five meetings. But with considerable help from Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev finally achieved his dream of beating Medvedev, against whom he has struggled a total of three times this year, losing all the matches. Zverev progressed to the quarterfinals, beating Medvedev 6-4, 7-5, 6-4.
