Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz recently revealed in one of his interviews from the US Open that there has been a shift in his favorite surface lately. The 2022 US Open winner said that his favorite surface now is hard court, whereas earlier, he called grass court as his favorite surface.
“Yes. Right now my favorite surface is hard court. When I won Wimbledon I fell in love with grass. Probably clay court is the last one for me. Right now hard court is my favorite one,” Alcaraz said in the on-court interview post round 4 win. However, he also conceded to the fact that he does not have a problem as such playing on any of the courts.
It is highly ironic as Spain is known for its clay courts, but Carlos Alcaraz is yet to win any clay court Grand Slam in his tournament despite being from that very nation. Spanish players are usually known to be terrific on clay courts but sadly, that surface has not favored Carlos Alcaraz so much yet, and thus he has not called it his favorite court.
Previously, the Spaniard had said that he loved grass courts, which is also what he mentioned in his quote. However, he has an incredible record in the US Open, being the defending champion and the absolute favorite to lift the trophy this season as well. He came close in the 2023 French Open but unfortunately lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-final, who went on to win the tournament.

Alcaraz defeated Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi in his Round of 16 match 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets to reach the next round of the tournament. Although his opponent for the next round has not been decided yet, it will be the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, which is extremely hard to predict.
Despite being the No. 1 seed, the Spaniard will now have only tough opponents. After all, he is only three wins away from successfully defending his US Open title and clinching the 3rd Grand Slam of his career.
