Carlos Alcaraz and Grigor Dimitrov will lock horns in the round of 16 of the ongoing Shanghai Masters. The two sensational players have had a number of great matches in the past and fans expect to witness another one of them in the WTA 1000 event. Ahead of the match, World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz seemed confident. The youngster said that he expected a good match and revealed that he had a special ‘weapon’ ready to win matches against players like Dimitrov.
“We have already played very good matches. As far as I’m concerned, I don’t wonder if I’m going to lose a set or not against him. I think he has a great game, he’s a very talented player. He gives you a lot of possibilities on the court, so it will be a little difficult for me. I will try to be focused all the time and not let him dominate the game,” Carlos Alcaraz said.
The Spaniard opined that Dimitrov might feel comfortable if the match goes in his favor. Thus, he will have to maintain constant pressure on the Bulgarian. “I think I have good weapons against these players, I will have to put pressure on his backhand or his game and try to dominate the match. I think that’s all I try to do in every match against this type of player, and I think I’ve done well so far,” he added.
Carlos Alcaraz and Grigor Dimitrov have played a total of three matches against each other and all three of them were won by the Spaniard. They have played one match each on a hard court, grass court, and clay court. However, all of their matches so far have been top-class, without any doubt.
Carlos Alcaraz’s recent form
After winning the 2023 Wimbledon Open, Carlos Alcaraz became the world No. 1 in the ATP rankings. However, ever since his loss in the Cincinnati Open final against Novak Djokovic, Alcaraz has suffered from poor form. He lost to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the 2023 US Open (which led to his dropping to the rank of World No. 2) and then to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of the 2023 China Open.
Although the 20-year-old has stated that these losses do not matter much and that his main goal is to regain the World No. 1 ranking, he better bring his game back to the same level soon. Winning the 2023 Shanghai Masters would be a good way to redeem himself.
