Former Argentine tennis player Juan Monaco has given a reality check to World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in his recent interview amid his rough patch. The 39-year-old has asserted that it is the few big flaws in the current generation that are ultimately leading to their downfall including Carlos Alcaraz.

Juan Monaco said that today’s generation of tennis players focus on social media more than their own game. This makes being affected by the comments that people make very easy and this is what is probably happening with Alcaraz according to him. The Argentine mentioned that the youngster gets influenced by the expectations of his fans and thinks he’s going to win all the time which leads to excess pressure.

He also has a very good team, which must isolate him from all kinds of pressures. For a 20 year old he looks very mature, although he himself admitted that he was under too much pressure. He plays thinking he’s going to win all the time, but he found himself with a great champion in front of him.

Monaco added that it is very difficult to play tennis with all these things at hand and Alcaraz needs to understand that he will not win every time at this stage. It’s just like 16-17 year old kids comparing themselves to Alcaraz as that is an example of setting the bar too high. Thus, it is important to focus more on one’s game and less on social media. He further added:

What happened to him with Djokovic is very normal, and it’s good for others to see that it’s normal. If he were to overcome it as if nothing would be inhuman and it would set the bar too high for 16, 17 year olds who compare themselves to Alcaraz.

Alcaraz was the top contender to finish the year as World No.1 but a string of bad results has given Novak Djokovic the upper hand. Djokovic is almost certain to finish the year as World No.1 once again. The only way Alcaraz can become World No.1 again this year is if he wins the ATP Finals and Djokovic fails to win even a single match.

The Spaniard still aims to end his season on a positive note by winning the 2023 ATP Finals which will start today in Turin. Alcaraz will face Alexander Zverev in his very first round of the 2023 ATP Finals. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is once again the favorite to win the ATP Finals.
