Carlos Alcaraz hails Rafael Nadal for inspiring his sleeveless look at the US Open as he starts his title defense

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has always idolized his Spanish mate and tennis icon Rafael Nadal. This US Open, Alcaraz will be defending his title against other formidable opponents. While doing so, Alcaraz revealed that his sleeveless shirt and shoes for this year’s US Open were inspired by his hero, Rafael Nadal.
The sleeveless style of the jersey was Nadal’s iconic look, but for now, Alcaraz has taken inspiration from it and hopes to honor it. Carlos has taken an easy victory in the first round of the US Open and moves on to the second round. During the post-match interview, he said, “Honestly, when I wear the sleeves, I was thinking about Rafa when he wear that. He won that US Open, right?” when asked to talk about wearing the sleeveless outfit.
Carlos has always taken inspiration from Nadal and hopes to honor his style by successfully defending his title. Carlos continued, “I love to wear that sometimes in some specific tournaments. Here in the US Open, I supposed to play last year, but it wasn’t. This year it’s a good, good outfit, so I love it.”
Alcaraz is really glad to be wearing his current outfit. He said that the sleeveless shirt was a perfect combination of comfort and respect for his idol, Nadal, which inspired him to play his best for both himself and Nadal. He wanted to debut his international run to Nadal by wearing the iconic outfit but wasn’t able to. Now he has the opportunity and will definitely do justice to it.

Many tennis players wear sleeveless shirts because they allow more freedom of movement in the arms and are also comfortable to play in. This year, Carlos Alcaraz has been seen wearing the new shirt, but recently fans have seen Alexander Zverev as well as Stefanos Tsitsipas also wearing sleeveless shirts.
Alcaraz is hoping that this shirt brings him the same luck that it brought his idol, Nadal. In addition to the shirt, he wore his famous Nike shoes, which featured his three “Cs” motto. The shoes are in a vibrant white and blue color with the letter C on the heel.
Alcaraz’s look has gotten mixed reactions from his fans. While some have loved the new outfit, others are finding it disrespectful to the sport. But mostly he has received positive feedback for his look. Regardless of the reactions, Alcaraz is very comfortable in his own skin and is one of the favorites of the tournament. He will look to follow in Nadal’s footsteps to win his second US Open title.
