Things remain in control of World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz who reaches the semi-finals at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters. Playing as the defending champion, the Spaniard defeated World No. 6 Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-1 in the quarter-finals on Thursday.
Alcaraz was trailing by two matches in his head-to-head with the German. But with the Spaniard’s fourth win in their ninth encounter, Zverev‘s lead is getting thinner. The match lasted 1 hour and 29 minutes, but not without a nearly 2-hour suspension.
While the match had its moments of brilliance from both players, two particular incidents will surely stand out. The first was the suspension due to the bee invasion, which caused a mini-panic in the stadium. The second was a fan moment for the 20-year-old that left him blushing.
With Alcaraz about to serve, a female fan started screaming ‘I love you Carlitos’ and the cameras immediately shifted on her. She was wearing a white t-shirt that had various photos of the Spaniard. The majority of the photos were from his modeling photoshoots, with a rare image of him hitting a shot.
As the lady continued to express her love for Alcaraz, the two-time Grand Slam singles title winner couldn’t contain his smile. He looked down in shyness as the crowd cheered on for the fan and Alcaraz.
While some could get distracted, Alcaraz remained focused on the match. He had brought out his A-game and continued with it. With the win over Zverev, he reached his third consecutive semi-final in the Californian desert.

The Spaniard would count on more of the support of this kind as he moves into the semis. He will take on rival Jannik Sinner in a repeat of last year’s semis at Indian Wells. The Italian, on his part, beat Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-3 to continue his streak of winning matches without dropping a set this week in the desert.
