Carlos Alcaraz has been one of the most talented players in this generation. With two Grand Slams already in his pocket, the Spaniard is surely one of the players to look out for in the coming generation.
After his win in the Argentina Open on Friday, the Spaniard opened up about his goal for the coming season. The 20-year-old has stated that regaining the World No. 1 position from Novak Djokovic is going to be one of his main goals for the season.
It’s a goal. You have to set goals for yourself. I’m trying to move forward.. To do it. There are great players fighting for the #1 ranking. It’s gonna be a good fight. Hopefully I recover it soon. The World No.2 said
Alcaraz reached the No. 1 position in September 2022. However, courtesy of Novak Djokovic’s superb 2023 season, Alcaraz hasn’t had a chance to dethrone the Serb.
With Nole dropping points after his loss against Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open, Alcaraz has his chance of dethroning Djokovic, and that is exactly what the young talent intends to do.
The semifinal loss to Djokovic has bridged the gap between Nole and Alcaraz. With some good performances in the upcoming tournaments, the Spaniard can really tighten the screws on Djokovic for the No. 1 position.
Carlos Alcaraz through to the quarterfinals of the Argentina Open
Carlos Alcaraz earns a dominating win in the Round of 16 of the Argentina Open against Camilo Carabelli. The Argentine tennis player couldn’t capitalize on his home advantage, as the defending champion beat him in straight sets.
This allows Alcaraz to set a match against Italy’s Andrea Vavassori for a place in the semis of the tournament.
The Argentina Open is going to be a good practice ground for Alcaraz for the upcoming clay season. The clay season will be of utmost importance for Alcaraz if he really intends to regain his World No. 1 position in the rankings.
