Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz was spotted wearing bandages on both his thighs during his Round-of-16 match in the US Open against Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi. It caught the eyes of many during the match and it was supposed that he was going through some discomfort, which is why the bandages were used. The 20-year-old finally revealed the reason for wearing the bandages in the post-match conference.

“In a Grand Slam, you play several tough matches in two weeks, so it’s normal to feel some discomfort. We always take any discomfort with caution, but it’s nothing serious. I felt some pain in my left leg and it’s only for prevention. As I say, nothing to worry about,” said the World No. 1 while discussing the issue.

Alcaraz was hands down incredible in his match against Arnaldi. He won the match 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets, not even giving a single chance to the Italian to bounce back. The fact that Alcaraz gave this dominating performance despite facing discomfort in his thighs shows exactly how good of form he is currently in.

Alcaraz will be facing Alexander Zverev in the next round of the US Open, i.e., in the quarterfinals. Zverev beat Jannik Sinner in the Round of 16 to reach this far in the tournament and he will now be up against perhaps the toughest opposition that he could face.

It is interesting to note that Alexander Zverev is ahead of Carlos Alcaraz in head-to-head stats. The two have met a total of five times against each other. Zverev has won three matches, while Alcaraz has won two. However, the only two matches that they played against each other on hard court went in favor of Alexander Zverev.
