A massive fire engulfed two neighboring buildings in Valencia on Thursday, and the list of affected people is long. At least nine people have died and fourteen more are still missing. Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz took to Instagram to share his heartfelt condolences to the victims of the incident through his story.

The incident took place at 05:30 PM at Campanar, which is a suburb area of Valencia and the exact reason for the fire has not been revealed yet. The flames reached out in all directions at an alarming rate and despite 16 firefighter units running down to the location almost instantly, the fire could not be contained.

The firefighters could not even enter the building and they had to use drones to find out the number of dead bodies. The ones who were injured were sent to hospitals immediately. As a result of the incident, the Valencian government issued a three-day mourning period.

Carlos Alcaraz is not in his element lately

The young Spaniard has recently pulled a string of poor performances this season. Alcaraz first lost to Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal of the Australian Open and then lost to Nicolas Jarry in the very first round of the Argentina Open. Given the fact that it was an ATP 250 event and that he was the top seed in the event, it was one of Alcaraz’s biggest losses in a long while.

Things got worse at the Rio Open when he suffered an ankle injury during the first round of the tournament and had to give a walkover. It was later discovered after an MRI scan that he has a grade II lateral sprain, which will keep him out of the tour for a couple of days.

He is expected to take part in an exhibition match against Rafael Nadal in Las Vegas on March 3, which will be streamed on Netflix. Alcaraz and his fans are hopeful of his recovery by then.
