Italian star Jannik Sinner defied the odds to win the first-ever Grand Slam of his career. He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final of the 2024 Australian Open. The Italian made a sensational comeback after losing the first two sets. The match will definitely go down in history as one of the best and most crucial comebacks in the Australian Open. He won the match 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz took to social media to congratulate the Italian star.

With this, Sinner has now defeated Daniil Medvedev in three back-to-back finals. Sinner defeated the Russian star in the China Open and the Vienna Open before the 2024 Australian Open. On the other hand, it was a devastating loss for the Russians, who lost two Australian Open finals after winning the first two sets. He lost in a similar fashion at the 2022 Australian Open against Rafael Nadal. Medvedev’s search for a second Grand Slam continues. Medvedev was also the runner-up at the 2023 US Open.

This moment is solely about Jannik Sinner, though. His campaign in the 2024 Australian Open was one for the history books. He defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in four sets in the semi-final.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are considered to be the future Greats of tennis

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz lead the list of NextGen players by a big margin. They are considered the future of tennis after Novak Djokovic retires. Holger Rune was also in consideration, but it is fair to say that these two have now proven that they are at a different level altogether.

Carlos Alcaraz has already won two Grand Slams, while Sinner has finally won his first after a long wait. They are also the two most recent players to defeat Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam match. Alcaraz beat the Serb in the 2023 Wimbledon final, while Sinner defeated him in the semi-final of the 2024 Australian Open, and that too in four sets.

The future of tennis is thus in safe hands, and it would be interesting to watch these players reach the peak of their respective careers. However, Novak Djokovic looks ready to compete in Grand Slam glory for another couple of years.
