Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz clinched his first title of the 2024 season as the 20-year-old beat Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells Open final. Alcaraz won in straight sets and successfully defended his crown. With this win, the Spaniard won a hefty prize money as well as 1000 ranking points. But despite that, Alcaraz sits behind Jannik Sinner and Medvedev in the Race to Turin.

Carlos Alcaraz has earned 1500 ranking points this season and thus sits in the third position. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner and Medvedev occupy the first and second positions respectively. While the Italian ace has accumulated 2900 ranking points on the back of his title-winning performance in Australia, Medvedev has 2150 points.

Although the 28-year-old has not won a title in the 2024 season yet, he has been consistent with his performances. In the three tournaments played so far, Daniil Medvedev has reached two finals- Australian Open and Indian Wells and one semifinal in Dubai. Thus, he has accumulated 2150 ranking points so far.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion and last year’s ATP Finals champion sits in the eleventh position with 910 ranking points so far this season. As Djokovic reached the Australian Open semifinal and was knocked out of the Indian Wells Open in the third round, the 36-year-old is lagging behind in terms of ranking points won.

The players ahead of Djokovic are Casper Ruud, Tommy Paul, Ugo Humbert, Sebastian Baez, Andrey Rublev, Alex de Minaur, and Alexander Zverev in the same order (descending in terms of rankings). Now, it is to be seen how the 24-time Grand Slam winner bounces back from this shambolic start to the season.
