World No. 2, Carlos Alcaraz, has already faced his first major drawback in the upcoming season as his very successful coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, will not be present with the Spaniard during his 2024 Australian Open campaign.
The reigning Wimbledon champion will not have his coach by his side during the very first Grand Slam of the year, as the Spanish coach is still recovering from a recent knee surgery. This will indeed be a huge blow for the young player, who will look to compete at the Australian Open after skipping it this year due to injury concerns.
The former Spanish tennis player and the 2003 French Open winner share a good and personal connection with Carlos Alcaraz. The two have had a good season this year, with the Spaniard winning Wimbledon after defeating the 24-time Grand Slam title champion, Novak Djokovic, in the finals.
The duo has been quite successful since the time the former World No. 1 took on the responsibility of coaching a young 16-year-old, Carlos Alcaraz, who has won two Grand Slams and twelve ATP Tour tournaments so far. He had earlier also been the coach of the German tennis player, Alexander Zverev.
Juan Carlos Ferrero not being able to support the 20-year-old will add to his troubles, as he will have to try and stand up for himself. There will be changes in the way he plays without his coach, but his team will make sure his absence does not affect the young tennis player as much.
Carlos Alcaraz receives regular coaching from his team during his matches
The questions and issues surrounding the on-court coaching of players by their coaches have always created quite a stir in the tennis world. There have been numerous controversies regarding the same in the past, most significantly the incident with Serena Williams and her coach at the US Open or Stefanos Tsitsipas constantly receiving in-game tips and advice from his father, which has caught the limelight.
Carlos Alcaraz too requires frequent pushing and motivation from his coach and team, and many a time, there have been many instances where the two were seen interacting with each other during his matches.
These kinds of help were banned in the past, but the Spaniard has now gotten used to them, and the lack of them might deeply impact him in the upcoming Australian Open as he will have to look and find motivation from within.
