Young Spanish sensation, Carlos Alcaraz has had a wonderful 2023 year but recently, the tennis community noticed a slight dip in his form. The Spaniard qualified first for his ATP Finals but had a forgetful debut as he lost against Alexander Zverev. He is now determined to turn his fortunes and make the best out of this tournament.
After an exciting 3-set loss against the German Zverev, Carlos is more determined than ever to bounce back and get back to winning ways. The Spaniard was on top of the game during the first set but slowly lost his grip and eventually the match. In a recent interview, Alcaraz reflects on his match and looks to change his tactics.
Even though the court is very fast, I need to be more consistent. At the end of the second set and the start of the third [against Zverev], I hit three or four shots out straight away. That can’t happen, although everyone has their own style. I watch Novak, for example, and he doesn’t give anything away straight away. My consistency was really lacking against Zverev.Carlos via Eurosports.
Carlos Alcaraz admits to not feeling good on his tennis level
Carlos Alcaraz has had a long season of ups and downs and since his recent injury that forced him out of the Swiss Open, the youngster admits to having fallen prey to mental fatigue and being able to perform at his best.

“I was feeling good physically and still am, but after the defeat, I don’t feel good in terms of my tennis level. It’s been a long and demanding year. I have to improve to get to this point of the season in better conditions, above all mentally. It’s probably mental fatigue. If I want to win this tournament…I have to get to this point of the year relaxed with a desire to win everything that is put in front of me,” said Carlos.
After a forgetful debut match against Zverev, the Spaniard bounced back to win his second game against Andrey Rublev in straight sets. The final score was 7-5,6-2 where Carlos was dominant in the second set to get himself up and going on the scoreboard and a possible chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
