Young Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz has had a good run in the major part of 2023 by winning back-to-back matches, beating Novak Djokovic in the finals of Wimbledon, and taking the No. 1 position.

After a high, the Spaniard experienced a slight dip in form, not being able to win any other tournament after Wimbledon. Another Spanish legend, Alex Corretja, gave a few insights about the form of Alcaraz.

Corretja believes that the Cincinnati finals between Djokovic and Alcaraz hurt the Spaniard so deeply that it took away some of his confidence as well as his momentum.

He gave everything he had during clay season, then finished it off unbelievably well at Wimbledon, winning Queen’s and Wimbledon. I think that was his peak.
Corretja said to Eurosports.

The Spaniard had also revealed that he was hurt by the loss and couldn’t do anything for a couple of days after the loss. After this, he has not been able to find himself in the finals of the next few tournaments. The Spaniard now gears up to make an all-exciting debut at the Nitto ATP Finals after not being able to compete last year.

Alex Corretja believes that Carlos lost his fire after the Cincinnati Open

The 2023 Cincinnati Open hosted one of the best matches of the year between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. Heading into this clash after a Wimbledon win, Carlos was looking to get another win over the Serb, but Novak was not going to let that happen and beat the Spaniard in a highly tense match. Alex Corretja, the former tennis player from Spain, believes that Carlos lost his momentum after this match.

He still had the feeling, the motivation, the wind of winning Wimbledon in his back going to the USA. I think that Cincinnati final against Djokovic where he gave everything he had and ended up losing hurt him a little bit as he gave the biggest effort and he didn't have the reward.
Corretja said in the interview

The Spaniard now heads into the ATP Finals for the first time in his career, all set to face two-time winner Alexander Zverev. Whatever the result, Alcaraz has won the hearts of many fans throughout the year, and they are sure that he will return next year with twice the fire in him.
