Carlos Alcaraz has been awarded the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award by the ATP Tour for the 2023 season. This award is given to players who recognize that they showed integrity on the court and played tennis fairly throughout the year. Jannik Sinner, Hubert Hurkacz, Grigor Dimitrov, and Carlos Alcaraz were the players nominated to win this award, and the Spaniard beat the three of them to win the award.

The voting is done by the other tennis players. Thus, Alcaraz’s colleagues decided that he was deserving of the award.

Alcaraz hardly gets involved in controversies and although he is often aggressive on the court, he never uses unfair means or any other ways to win his matches and is a very clean player. Thus, it was the right choice to give him the award. However, Sinner was also a strong contender to win it.

Talking about Alcaraz’s overall season, he aced it in 2023. He started off the 2023 season very well but was unfortunately unable to keep up the consistency by the end of the year. After losing to Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal of the US Open, he suffered a drip in his form.

Despite being at the top of the rankings for a good amount of time, he was unable to become the year-end World No. 1 and lost the title to Novak Djokovic. However, he won the 2023 Wimbledon, which was a major achievement.
