World No 1 Carlos Alcaraz had been the standout performer of the year as he went on to create history to become the youngest year-end top ranked player. He clinched his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open and four ATP singles titles in the calendar year. For his incredible achievements, he has been voted as the Most Improved Player of the Year at the 2022 ATP Awards.

He had an abrupt ending to his 2022 campaign as he had to withdraw his name from the Year-end Championship following an abdominal injury that kept him out for some weeks. His most remarkable performances have been at the Madrid Open, where he defeated the Top 3 to win his sixth ATP title. He has registered 57-13 win loss record throughout the year with a 81.4 win percentage. In addition to that, he has won nine times against Top 10 players in 2022.

The 19-year-old has been declared as the winner on the basis of the vote from the fellow ATP players. The nominees’ list included Holger Rune, Jack Draper and Maxime Cressy along with Carlos Alcaraz as all the four players faced a major rise in their overall rankings. Moreover, he had started the year as ranked 32 but ended the year being the No 1 player in the world.

On the other had, 4-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has been given the 2022 Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award recipient. He has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts in supporting the people in Ukraine affected due to the war. He worked with Unicef to provide medical supplies and development kits in Ukraine and even donated £500,000 of his prize money to help the children affected due to the Russia- Ukraine war.

After having a successful campaign in 2022, he added another achievement to his name by leading the list of most earned prize money by a player in 2022. Carlos Alcaraz crossed the $10 million mark in his overall earnings which he received through his participation and winning numerous tournaments this season. The biggest prize money earnings came from the US Open which added $2.6 million to his kitty. Along with it, he stands at the 10th position in the most searched athletes on Google in 2022.

Ahead of the start of 2023, he talked about his thoughts and his aspirations for the new season. He is completely in awe of his triumph at the US Open and still needs to celebrate the victory with his teammates and family. Moreover, Carlos Alcaraz admitted that the coming year would be different for him. He stated that he needs to think differently to be able to stay at the top.

The six-time ATP singles title winner talked the responsibility that comes with being the No 1 player along with being a Grand Slam champion. Carlos Alcaraz admitted that he understands the attention and hopes of his fans going into various tournaments as he would be looked upon as one of the favorites. For his splendid performances, his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero has been voted as the ‘Coach of the Year‘ at the 2022 ATP Awards.
