“So f**ing useless” – Caroline Garcia gets WHACKED on social media for playing ‘shadily’ bad against Mayar Sherif as fans brew ‘match-fixing’ theories

World no. 5 Caroline Garcia lost to world no. 59 Mayar Sherif in the round of 32 at the Madrid Open. The French tennis sensation had a good start to the match as she broke the very first service game of Mayar. She seemed to be moving quite fluidly in the beginning of the game. Garcia was playing volley shots and moving well around the net. She even served two times for the first set but eventually losing her last service game taking the set score to 5-6.
She then immediately broke the Egyptian’s last service game tying the score at 6-6. But eventually her game level just dropped in the tie break and she lost the set with a glaring score of 2-7. She suddenly started making a lot of unforced errors which got fans suspicious of her intent. Some fans were bordering on the theory of match fixing.
Service seemed to be a problem for Caroline Garcia who was struggling to get a good first serve percentage. She also lost out on several crucial points to turn the match around. In the second set she made some very conspicous shots which left fans wondering whether Garcia deserves the world no. 5 spot. Netizens were not gentle on the French player and began tweeting about her Tennis IQ and also the possibility of the match being fixed.
This was the biggest win and the first Top 5 win for the Egyptian Mayar Sherif 7-6,6-3. Garcia and Sherif had played only one match prior to this at Monterrey Open where Garcia got the better of Sherif in 2 sets. In last 12 months Caroline has made it into 5 WTA tour quarterfinals. In Stuttgart she made it to her 5th quarterfinal. The French player said that her accomplishment is now falling a little flat and she needs to elevate her game more.

A lot of spectators were quick to jump to the conclusion that the match could have been fixed. Caroline Garcia’s play level dropped drastically during and after the first set tie break. People found it hard to believe that it was not a pre-meditated.

On the other hand, there was a set of fans who were just plain disappointed with how Caroline played. Some of them used a lot of unflattering words and expletive to show their disappointment with the player.
A group of tennis fans also lashed out on WTA stating the points system is perhaps faulty. They found it difficult that a player like Caroline Garcia could be a top 5 player in WTA.
