WTA Finals champion Caroline Garcia revealed her delight after France’s dominating 5-0 victory over Argentina in the United Cup. The French star defeated Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska 6-3 6-0 in just 64 minutes to give her team a 3-0 lead. Garcia racked up an astonishing 24 winners during the game. Speaking post-match, Garcia admitted that taking revenge on Argentina was special. France had lost to Argentina in the FIFA men’s World Cup in Qatar earlier this month.
2018 World Cup winners France had managed to reach another final in Qatar. They faced Lionel Messi-led Argentina in the Lusail Stadium. An exhilarating match finished 3-3 and went to a penalty shootout. France lost the shootout as Argentina went home with the World Cup trophy. With football being a popular sport in France, the loss was painful for the French.
Caroline Garcia confirmed as much, saying that the France team “all wanted our little revenge.” Garcia certainly played like it, charging the net regularly and dominating with her serve. She recorded her second victory at the tournament playing mixed doubles with playing captain Edouard Roger-Vasselin. The pair won 6-2 6-4 to complete a clean sweep for their team.
Garcia revealed something odd about the tie, however. She said seeing her coach, Argentine Juan Pablo Guzman donning a France t-shirt was quite funny. Her coach surely would not have had a problem seeing his charge putting in such a dominating performance.
Garcia said she felt really good playing competitively after a few weeks of training. The tournament gives Garcia the perfect opportunity to prepare for the Australian Open. The first Grand Slam of the year begins on the 16th of January and Garcia enters as the 5th seed.

Caroline Garcia’s stunning 2022
Caroline Garcia started 2022 in a lowly 74th rank. She had a tough first five months and slipped to 79th in the rankings in May. However, since June, she has racked up 36 wins. Picking up four titles on four different surfaces and finishing the year in 4th rank is unbelievable considering her start.
She also returned to the elite bracket of players with eight wins against the WTA top 10 this year. A 45-20 win record meant it was one of her best years as a professional. She even finished as the ATP ace leader with 394 aces this year.
Having become the first Frenchwoman to win the WTA Finals since 2005, Garcia has very positive momentum. She will be looking to take the next step and win a Grand Slam title. Her pursuit will begin on the 16th of January when the Australian Open starts.
