“I learned so much about myself as a player and as a person” – Caroline Garcia pens down a heartfelt note following her impressive comeback
Caroline Garcia
French World No.4 Caroline Garcia transcribes a heartful message to fans after an incredible season via Twitter. She recently won the WTA Finals and got back into the Top-5 rankings after 2018. Statistically speaking, Garcia’s career graph showed a spectacular high towards the end of the season.
The French’s rise back to top form was an absolute gift to her fans. Keeping this in mind, the tennis star didn’t fail to pen down a lovely message to her well-wishers via Twitter now, after the season is over. The long message started with her thoughts on the emotional roller-coaster of a season she had and how she improved as a person and as a player. She also gave her views on how she felt initially, thinking that her best tennis days are over.
In her own words, “Dear 2022 season, you made me go through all kind(s) of emotions, I cried from pain, sadness, and joy in 11 months But I learned so much about myself as a player and as a person. Several times I was invaded by doubts, let(letting)myself be overwhelmed by the negative. | questioned the universe, told myself(me) that maybe my luck had passed, that I would never succeed again.”
Continuing her train of thoughts, “I’ve had sleepless nights, binge eating, cried in my hotel room, cried on tennis courts, been on crutches, sware, relearned to walk, struggled to find shoes, and suffered physically and mentally…. But I also learned from every moment, every difficulty, my foot injury made me realize how much I wanted to come back to the courts and above all play my real game, the one I like to watch, offensive tennis; loved going to the net, hitting winners, dropping volleys, slamming aces, to be inside the courts on the return.
This injury allowed me to play more liberated, I learned to let go, I learned to accept my mistakes, the unexpected, to delegate, to trust myself, to follow my instincts, than I can eat a pizza from time to time, it was not going to change the result of the next day if I was dying to eat one “that was good too”. learned that on days off, taking my mind off things was also part of training and preparing for a match or tournament. I invited friends to tournaments and realized that this sharing was so important to me, and I got to know myself better.
And I still have so much progress to make I followed my passions, cooking, and baking took time for myself, read, read a lot, and laughed. had new experiences, opened bottles of champagne (we have to celebrate the titles, eh, in moderation), eat lots of good things, and taste flat white and golden lattes around the world.
By building day by day, by staying positive, by having confidence, with simple goals in mind: to be healthy, to do my best day by day, to live in the present moment, to play my game to the fullest, ended up live (living) the best season of my career! I won 4 titles including the WTA Masters, made 1/2 final at the us open, and won my 2nd RG in doubles. I finish the year number 4 in the world after being 75th in June In the end, liked this season, and had unreal experiences.
shared incredible moments with my family, my team, and my friends. I am grateful for every day, every moment, and every person who accompanied me during this season. THANK YOU. I’m not sure I’ve realized very well these last few weeks, what know is the desire I feel to experience these emotions again. have the feeling that can still improve my game so much, that in the end, I like to push my limits, challenge myself and I like to play that way!“
She ended the long message by stating the importance of how to learn to live in the present despite everything, “It’s time to decompress, cut, digest, enjoy, and live the present moment!“
