Former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki has been associated with several hate comments on social media which have led the Danish star to come out of her comfort zone and thereby bash a journalist. A journalist named Jon Wertheim had linked Wozniacki to certain quotes that he felt that Caroline must have indicated to Simona Halep and Martina Hingis regarding their doping cases.
Now things have taken a different toll. It has been revealed that those quotes were posted by a fake and impersonating account with Caroline Wozniacki firing the shots, slamming the journalist for not researching properly before taking her name. The journalist had implied that Wozniacki allegedly stood up for Halep amid the Romanian’s four-year ban from professional tennis. The Dane had apparently urged her colleagues to show respect to Halep until the final verdict is reached.
Clearing this, she posted on Twitter (now called as X) saying, “This was NOT a hacked account. You simply did not do your research to see it was a fake account with no verified check mark on it! Very simple to see on Instagram!”
She also added, “It’s come to my attention that @jon_wertheim posted, and since deleted, quotes and opinions from me about Martina Hingis and the Halep doping case. To be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR those quotes were NOT from me, but instead were taken from an account on Instagram that pretended to be me, and didn’t have the check mark.”
“This is very frustrating because it could have been easily avoided by either calling me or checking the account’s authenticity on Instagram. I understand mistakes can happen, but I just want to be absolutely clear that these comments did NOT come from me. Have a great day!,” Wozniacki concluded.
What did Simona Halep say about her new 4-year ban imposed by the ITIA amid Wozniacki clearing air?
Simona Halep was on the top of the world before getting banned by the ITIA agency last year. She took the post by storm after managing to reach the World No. 1 spot in the WTA rankings way back in the year 2017. Halep didn’t stop there as she continued her march to success by lifting the 2018 Roland Garros, followed by the 2019 Wimbledon Championships.
She put her blame on a contaminated supplement that she had intake by mistake, thereby proposing her appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. In a statement released later, Halep said, “I am continuing to train and do everything in my power to clear my name of these false allegations and return to the court.” She also promised to pursue all sorts of legal remedies against the supplement company in the coming days.
