Andrey Rublev reigned supreme in the finals of the Nordea Open on Sunday, as he completely outplayed Casper Ruud in straight sets. The Russian handed a bagel to the three-time Grand Slam finalist in the second set, as the Norwegian had no answers to the onslaught.

Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud are two of the nicest guys on the ATP Tour and are generally admired by their peers as well. The latter cracked up the crowd during the trophy presentation ceremony, after making a hilarious statement on Andrey Rublev’s level of tennis in the final.

Casper Ruud praised his opponent by stating that he was among the nicest people on the tour. However, he hilariously claimed that Andrey Rublev caught all the lines during their battle on Sunday. Rublev has had a good couple of months on the tour, as he reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon earlier, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in four sets.

Andrey Rublev had a pretty convincing run at the Nordea Open this week, defeating some highly reputed players on his way to the title. He defeated the likes of Alexander Zverev and Francisco Cerundolo, before outplaying Casper Ruud in the finals.

Casper Ruud spoke highly of Andrey Rublev in his post-match speech. The top seed himself enjoyed a good week, as he blasted his way into the finals. “Andrey, you are a tough competitor, but also a nice guy. You are always respectful to your opponents even tho you hit all the fucking lines today,” said Ruud.

Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev are now both headed for the German Open which will be held in the upcoming week. The tournament will be conducted on outdoor clay courts, before the action moves onto the hard court season. The two players are again the top two seeds in the tournament, as they could face off again in the finals next week.
