As tennis fans are waiting for the Netflix tennis documentary series ‘Break Point‘, Norwegian World Number 3 Casper Ruud has come up with his thoughts on the same. In a recent interview, he described the experience he had with cameras everywhere. Most of his part was captured from the French Open 2022 as per his words.
The documentary is set to be released on January 13. Ruud is expecting this to boost tennis like the Formula 1 documentary that helped the sport to gain more popularity. As in his words, “I can’t wait to see it. I didn’t take the film crew to all my private affairs, hotel rooms, and such, I tried to keep it professional, but I didn’t feel very comfortable taking them everywhere. Some players did and some didn’t, so we’ll see a mix of everything.”
Continuing the train of thought, Ruud explained, “In my case, they followed me closely at Roland Garros, which I hope will make for a good streak. There may be angles and sides to the story that I don’t know about, so I can’t wait to see the show. It had a big impact on Formula 1, and on the popularity of this sport in the world, so hopefully, it can give tennis a boost.” (Source: We love tennis, translated via google)
Casper Ruud’s breakthrough 2022 season
Casper Ruud has finished as the runner-up in 2 of the 4 Grand Slams this year. The first final was in French Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal and then against current World number 1 Carlos Alcaraz in US Open.
The above stat itself will be enough to show the consistency of the Norwegian this season. Though he was not able to cross the finishing line, he will go to 2023 with a lot of confidence. The haters who were trolling him for showing up only in ATP-250 tournaments before can take their step back now.
The Norwegian has won 3 ATP titles this season –Gstaad (Outdoor/Clay), Geneva (Outdoor/Clay), and Buenos Aires (Outdoor/Clay). With a good run in almost all the tournaments including playing the final against Novak Djokovic in the ATP Finals, Turin, Casper Ruud was able to get a career-high ranking of 2 in September.
He was also awarded ‘Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award‘ by ATP for the first time in his career. Apart from all these, he had a great run of exhibition events in Latin America in October with his idol Rafael Nadal which helped in improving the popularity of the sport in general.
Starting the year as World Number 8 and ending as Number 3, the Norwegian will be recharging the batteries for a stronger finish in 2023.
