Life hasn’t been easy for Novak Djokovic this season due to the mandatory vaccination rule. He was first denied entry into Australia and after a 10-day long tussle, was deported from the country as a result of which, he wasn’t allowed to play the Australian Open. He had to delay the start of his season and wasn’t allowed to play the Golden Swing either.
He had a decent clay-court season but wasn’t able to defend his French Open title after he lost to Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals. He eventually bounced back and won his 7th Wimbledon title but once again, the clock seems to have ticked a full circle. As of now, Djokovic isn’t allowed to enter the USA and hence is missing the North American swing. He missed the ongoing Canada Masters due to his vaccination status and now, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Masters just a few hours before the draw.
The Cincinnati Masters draw was supposed to take place on August 12 and Djokovic waited till the very last minute to see if there would be any chance for him to play there. But unfortunately, despite various new regulations, Djokovic is still not welcome in the USA due to him being unvaccinated. As of now, Djokovic is still hopeful to play in the US Open but it is highly unlikely that the US government would make any new amends for him.

Fans divided over Novak Djokovic’s decision to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters
Fans on social media were once again divided by Djokovic’s decision. While many believed that it is Djokovic’s actions that are stopping him from competing in the States while many believe that the Serb should be allowed to compete given that the Covid scare is far beyond us.
