Martina Navratilova who is known for her prowess on the court and her legendary outspoken and witty opinions on social media, has disclosed that she is suffering from throat and breast cancer. The biopsy of the former World No.1 was taken after first finding a broadened lymph node in her neck back in November 2022 at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

She also underwent surgery and radiation therapy back in 2010 when it was diagnosed she had breast cancer. Soon she was declared cancer-free. This time, however, spokesperson informed that the cancer is in its early stages and hence can be treated.

“The cancer type is HPV (human papillomavirus) and this particular type responds really well to treatment. Both these cancers are in their early stages with great outcomes,” her spokesperson informed.

The American tennis legend also relaeased a staement in these regards in her own canny and fearless manner with which all her fans are familiar with.

This double whammy is serious but still fixable. I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all I have got,” she said.

The 3-time Australian Open champion was invited to Australia to analyze matches at the Australian Open 2023. However, now her spokesperson has also informed that she will not attend the event but will give her expert opinions on a Zoom call.

Carla Suarrez Navarro, who has also successfully fought cancer and returned to the tour, too, gave hope that Martina Navratilova will fight this disease with strength.

“Sending strength and hope, @Martina. You’ve always been a true fighter, overcoming many challenges, and this time won’t be any different. My thoughts are with you,” she wrote in her caption.
