Chris Evert’s career and life after retirement

American former world No. 1 tennis player Chris Evert turned pro way back in 1972. Alongside Czech–American legend Martina Navratilova, also her greatest rival, Evert dominated women’s tennis in the 1970s and 1980s winning 18 major singles titles, which include a record seven French Open titles and a joint-record six US Open titles (tied with Serena Williams).
On the court, Evert was known for her consistent, counterpunching game, which revolutionized the sport. Evert got the nickname “Ice Princess” due to her composure, mental toughness, and elegant style of play. In 1995 she was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame.
After retiring from tennis, Evert has been active in various causes. In 2021, Evert became a supporter of the new Women’s Sports Policy Working Group that focuses on inclusion for all transgender female athletes. Evert has been active on social media voicing her opinions on important matters. Recently, Evert shut down an American political scientist for a s*xist comment.
