Amanda Anisimova has spoken out to the fans about taking a break from tennis through social media. Everything unfolded this Friday afternoon and she quoted this on her Instagram post, “It’s become unbearable being at tennis tournaments. At this point, my priority is my mental well-being and taking a break for some time. I’ve worked as hard as I could to push through it.”

She also addressed that she will be missing the fans and playing the sport. She is set to take an infinite break from tennis with the main concern being her mental health. Amanda Anisimova, who is just 21, achieved a lot at a young age and has been ranked in the WTA ranking top 100 since shortly after turning 17.

Chris Evert, a former world No.1 tennis player, expressed her take on the situation while praising and supporting Amanda Anisimova through a tweet. Chris Evert expressed that the lives of young tennis players can be deceptive and not normal at all.” Every day, you’re either a winner or a loser.”, Evert added to emphasize the harsh nature of their lives. Chris Evert also mentioned the harsh and continuous pressure they face from social media where they are ‘either put on a pedestal’ or ‘shamed’.

Her fans and colleagues have been nothing but supportive on social media. Tons of people are praying for her healing and expecting her to come in a better-than-ever state. Some fans also think her Russian background also has a part to play in this. Amanda Anisimova had also reacted to the body shaming comments she received which could also have contributed to her mental breakdown.

Amanda’s highest career ranking was the WTA ranking of No.21 and has been in the top 100 ranking since turning 17. In total, Anisimova has won two WTA Tour titles and reached three WTA finals. Her breakthrough year, in GrandSlam, was 2019. At the French Open, she defeated the defending champion(then world No.3) Simona Halep and became the youngest semifinalist at the tournament in over 10 years.

Mental health is an issue of massive concern in the world and age we live in and more people have started prioritizing healing mentally rather than just carrying on with life.
