After an underwhelming 2022, the defending US Open champion Emma Raducanu gears up for the first match of the Citi Open, the young Brit played her last match at this year’s Wimbledon Championships where she was eliminated in the second round by Caroline Garcia. Second seed Raducanu will be looking to improve on her season at this WTA 250 event as she has a new temporary coach in Dmitry Tursunov who will be looking to get the Brit on track once again.
After winning the US Open in 2021, Raducanu has been a shadow of her former self ever since. Despite being so young she managed to win a Grand Slam and that followed evident pressure from fans all around the world, she will be looking to defend her US Open title at the end of this month.
Louisa Chirico, who is coming into the tournament with two wins in the qualifiers against Yue Yuan and Xiyu Wang will be faced with immense pressure as she has to face world number 10 Raducanu in the first round of the Citi Open. Chirico will be looking to build on her victories in the qualifiers and possibly try to pull off an upset.

Emma Raducanu is predicted to pull off a comfortable win against Louisa Chirico in the first round of the Citi Open, however, having a lackluster 2022 and a change in coaching could prove to be dangerous for Raducanu as Chirico will be entering the match with essentially nothing to lose and there remain some chances of an upset happening seeing how Raducanu has been performing this year. Essentially opted to be the victor, Raducanu will have to be on top of her game to overcome Chirico.
