Coco Gauff can’t get a more difficult draw as she will have to overcome a host of challenges to lay hands on the French Open title
Coco Gauff is going through a lean patch and will be extremely difficult for her to clinch her maiden Major at the 2023 French Open.

The French Open 2022 was a memorable tournament for Coco Gauff. The American sensation reached the finals at Roland Garros in both the singles and doubles categories, achieving the best-ever result at a Grand Slam in her career so far.
Though she stumbled upon the final hurdle in both championship matches, Gauff was praised for her performance by everyone, and all were assured that it was just a matter of time before she grabs her maiden major. However, exactly one year later, the 2023 French Open has arrived, but the expectations this time around from Gauff are next to negligible.
The 19-year-old has been woefully out of form this season; other than her win at the WTA 250 ASB Classic, her best result in 2023 is a semifinal finish at the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty-Free Championships. Even though the 19-year-old has been seeded sixth in this year’s draw at Roland Garros, Gauff will have to overcome some stiff challenges in order to stand a realistic chance of capturing her maiden Slam.
It will not be easy by any means, as the top half of the draw includes two of the most consistent women this season, Gerald Slam champions Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina, besides Gauff.

A rematch of last year’s final awaits Coco Gauff as she is set to lock horns with Iga Swiatek

Gauff will begin her campaign at the 2023 French Open against Rebeka Masarova and should have no problems whatsoever until the third round, where she is expected to meet the 2023 Italian Open finalist and 25th-seed Anhelina Kalinina. It would be interesting to see how much Kalinina has recovered from her injury, which forced her to withdraw from the final in Rome last week.
If Gauff progresses to the Round of 16, then she may run into either 11th-seed Veronica Kudermetova or 20th-seed Madison Keys. Though, in any case, it won’t be an easy encounter, Gauff is expected to make it to yet another Grand Slam quarterfinal. If she does so, the 19-year-old may battle with defending champion and first seed Iga Swiatek in a rematch of last year’s final at Roland Garros.
If it actually happens, the match is expected to be enthralling and an edge-of-your-seat thriller. If Gauff is able to overcome the Polish challenge, which would definitely be considered an upset based on her current form, her most likely opponent in the semifinals would be 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. Another tough match, and if Gauff clears this hurdle too, it would be considered a commendable achievement since she is going through a lean patch.
The championship match for Gauff may most likely happen with either reigning Australian Open winner and 2nd-seed Aryna Sabalenka or local favorite and 5th-seed Caroline Garcia.
