American teen sensation Coco Gauff comes up with some strong statements about getting constant questions about her young age in interviews and press conferences. She was pretty sure about what she wanted, saying that she doesn’t need any extra credit for being so young on the tour and still being able to outperform her opponents.
From the press conference during the French Open, her exact words about the extra consideration of her age were, “Age is important to mention sometimes, but as a player and going through it, yes, it gets a little bit annoying.” Coco Gauff was talking to the press after defeating the youngest player left in the draw, 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva, in the third round: 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-1.
When Gauff was asked about whether there was any change in attitude playing against a younger opponent in the previous round, she responded, “I don’t see age as a factor, to be honest. You have to play her as you would any other mature and strong person. Obviously, she’s proved her position here, and I’m going to try to do my best against her.”
Coco Gauff will have to face the reigning champion Iga Swiatek in the quarter-final
The American World No. 6 Coco Gauff was handed one of the most difficult draws in this French Open. Her most difficult test will be in the quarterfinals against the resigning champion, Iga Swiatek, who is in red-hot form. Before thinking about that, she will have to beat the unseeded player, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. The Slovakian player has a career-best ranking of 26, but it was years ago in 2016. Coco Gauff’s net worth is around $10 million.
Considering the current form, we might be seeing a blockbuster quarterfinal between the American teen and Polish World No. 1. Iga Swiatek will play her fourth-round match against the unseeded Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, which must be an easy outing for the Polish. She has qualified for the last 32 after double-beguiling the Chinese unseeded player Wang Xinyu in the third round.
It will be interesting to see how Gauff can deal with powerful baseliners like Swiatek on clay courts, where there is more need for point construction and athleticism. The American teen has the capability for an upset, but before that, she will have to deal with the Slovakian in the fourth round. There have been many rumors about Coco Gauff’s boyfriend but currently, she is single.
