Coco Gauff booked her quarter-final seat at the Roland Garros after defeating the Slovak Anna Karolína Schmiedlová. She will be locking horns with Iga Swiatek, who reached the quarter-finals after the walkover from Lesia Tsurenko. During the press conference, Gauff voiced her sheer determination to avenge her 2022 French Open finals defeat at the hands of the World No.1.
The World No.6 had a satisfactory start to her clay campaign this year. The American player faced early upsets in the Stuttgart, Madrid and Rome Open. At the Roland Garros, Gauff played a game of impressive tennis in her fourth-round victory over Karolína Schmiedlová in straight sets. The 19-year-old will have a quarter-finals clash with Iga Swiatek, which will be their seventh WTA Head-2-Head meeting. During the press conference, Gauff said that she is all ready to face the challenge from the World No.1. She also added that their battle will be an entertaining one.
“Since last year I have been wanting to play her especially at this tournament. I figured that it was going to happen. I’m the type of mentality if you want to be the best you have to beat the best,” she said.
“I think also if you want to improve, you have to play the best. I think it would be almost cowardly to say that I want to not face the noise and not face the challenge, but I think that I’m up for it. I have improved a lot since last year, and she has too. I think it will be a great battle for us and for the fans too,” Gauff added.
Gauff also reached the women’s doubles quarter-finals with Jessica Pegula at the French Open.

Coco Gauff voiced that her game is valued more than her achievements
Coco Gauff had an underperforming start to the clay tours. The 19-year-old failed to reach past the round of 32 at the Madrid and Rome Open. However, her doubles partnership with Jessica Pegula attained two runners-up trophies in the Madrid and Italian Open. At the French Open, the American player easily sailed past the first and second rounds of the major. In the third round, Gauff registered her incredible win over Mirra Andreeva to set foot in the second week of the tournament.
During a press conference, Gauff stated that she would prefer to be known for her game style than her career accolades. She said that constant focus on the age factor is a bit overwhelming for the players.
“Age is important to mention sometimes, but as a player and going through it, yes, it gets a little bit annoying. Because I feel like I’m the type of person I don’t need to be praised because of my age or anything. I prefer just to be praised because of my game, not because of things I’m doing at whatever age,” she said.
As Gauff booked her third consecutive quarter-finals seat at the major after defeating Karolína Schmiedlová in straight sets, she’ll be eyeing a resounding victory over Iga Swiatek. What does the rest of the tournament have in store for the young Tennis sensation? Only time will tell.
