Nineteen-year-old tennis sensation Coco Gauff created history last night as she became the youngest American teenager since Serena Williams to win a Women’s Singles Grand Slam and also the first American teenager to win a Grand Slam in this century. 

She did so by defeating Belarusian player Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the 2023 US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium in front of a crowd that cheered in her favor all night long. It was definitely not easy for Coco Gauff, and he won the final against all odds.

Aryna Sabalenka had won the first set of the match pretty convincingly, and the teenager had to win the last two rounds in order to turn things around. She showed immense mental capacity and did exactly that despite being under pressure.

In fact, her performance put Aryna Sabalenka under so much pressure that she was seen committing way too many unforced errors. 

Coco played tremendously in the last two sets to turn things around and register a sensational comeback victory. She defeated Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final to win the first Grand Slam of her life. After the victory, she was overwhelmed by emotion and broke down in tears. In a recent viral video, the player can also be seen praying to God on the court after winning the final. 

Coco Gauff has been phenomenal throughout this season. She had already won the Citi Open and Cincinnati Open over the span of the last few months and will now continue her dream run after winning the first Grand Slam of her career.

Coco Gauff recently revealed, after defeating Karolina Muchova in the Cincinnati Open final to win the trophy, that she is a Christian by faith. She thanked Jesus Christ for giving her power and guiding her through the tough times. 

“It’s unbelievable, I’m just happy to be here in this moment, I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It’s been a lot of nights alone crying trying to figure it out. And you know, I still have a lot to figure out. But you know, I thank Him for covering me,” she said after winning the trophy.
