Amanda Anisimova, the 21-year-old American Tennis player, has been inactive from the game due to her mental health reasons. Earlier in the year, she had said that she would take an indefinite mental health break from tennis, and her fans, as well as other players, support and respect this decision. Coco Gauff is one of the many players who has shown her full support towards Amanda amidst her struggles.
In an interview, the American said that she was surprised to hear Amanda is taking a break, but she understands the reason behind this. “I’d say when she announced the initial break, I was surprised. I don’t think anybody was expecting it or anything. But I can understand really,” said Coco. She continues by saying that some players need to take a break and clear their heads, while some don’t.
Amanda recently faced a huge setback in the form of her dad’s demise and this has indeed taken a toll on the player’s mental health. Coco Gauff went on to say that she hopes Anisimova is taking care of herself and will eventually return to playing tennis.
Coco also mentions that Amanda’s dad might have started her tennis career, so the loss of her father is enormous for the 21-year-old. “I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he started her in tennis. I was really surprised personally how she was able to continue to play,” said Coco.

The Cincinnati Open winner Coco Gauff shows her support towards Amanda Anisimova
Coco Gauff, who is all in support of Amanda Anisimova’s indefinite mental health break, said that more players should consider taking breaks. She also reminds everyone that athletes are also humans who have to take a few breaks to get their act together.
Naomi Osaki, the former world champion, also showed her support for the American by saying a few kind words. She said that one should prioritize their mental health before anything, and it’s good that she is taking a break. Anisimova has made a courageous decision to open up about taking a break, and hopefully, many players in the future will also prioritize their mental health.
As Coco Gauff readies herself for the opening match of the 2023 US Open, a significant obstacle stands in her path to the finals: the world number 1, Iga Swiatek. The anticipation is high for this anticipated rematch between the two players. While Swiatek has secured victories over Gauff in the past, their dynamic shifted when Gauff emerged victorious at the Cincinnati Open.
The question of whether Gauff can secure a spot in the finals and potentially win the US Open now lingers, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the unfolding events.
