Gauff was seen calling a mysterious person on her phone following her phenomenal victory at the US Open final. She later on revealed in the on-court interview that it was her brother whom she had tried to call after the match.

Following her stunning victory against Aryna Sabalenka in the final showdown, she held her maiden Grand Slam title in her hand. At just 19 years old, the American teen created history by becoming the youngest US Open champion since Serena Williams in 1999. However, she showed audiences that while she trained like a machine; she was still human.

Coco Gauff admitted to having spoken with her boyfriend so she could stop herself from fantasizing about a US Open victory. While the American managed to win the title, she still had her apprehensions about counting her eggs before they hatch. So to stop herself from overthinking and distracting herself, she spoke with her boyfriend till late at night.

“Honestly, I did not have any of those visions till last night. That’s what I did at French. I was envisioning, what would happen if I win, “ she said. She also revealed that one of the reasons for her failure at the French Open was that she wanted it too much and so she started fantasizing about it. She did not want to have a repeat of the 2022 heartbreak and so she found a way to keep herself distracted.

I just called my boyfriend and I told him let’s talk until it was time to go to sleep. So we spoke until uh 1 am and then I went to sleep and I woke up this morning,” Gauff admitted.

Her strategy seemed to work, for she managed to defeat Aryna Sabalenka in the finals of Flushing Meadows. Although she lost the first set against the Belarusian, she picked up the pace. From the second set onwards, she dictated the game with her strokes. She defeated Sabalenka with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, ultimately winning the championship.
