Coco Gauff is honored and grateful to have begun her Australian Open campaign against none other than Katerina Siniakova at Rod Laver Arena. The 7th seed won the first round of the Australian Open comfortably in straight sets (6-1, 6-4). This was the first match in Rod Laver Arena in this year’s major, and Coco was thankful to have opened her campaign at this venue.

Although she had a comfortable victory in her first round, Katerina did manage to give her a tough fight in the second set. She broke Coco’s serve in the sixth game of the second set and went up 4-2. However, Coco kept her cool and broke Katerina’s serve twice in game number 7 and 9 to bag the match. In the post-match interview, the popular personality was pleased with her performance and was happy with the way fans turned out to watch her.

When asked about her return to Melbourne and Rod Laver arena, Coco noted, “I’m super honored. I was not expecting to be able to open the tournament on Rod Laver. I’m super honored that you guys came to support me and the tournament decided to choose me and Katerina to be able to open up this court for the tournament.”

Coco Gauff faces Britain’s star, Emma Raducanu in the next round

The world No. 7 has had a flying start to the tournament. However, she has a tricky second round as she will face the former U.S. Open champion, Emma Raducanu. She won her first round comfortably against the German, Korpatsch, in straight sets (6-3, 6-2), and is looking confident. On paper, this matchup appears to favor the Americans, but Emma will not make it easy.

The British player came to the Australian Open with an ankle injury that she suffered a few days ago. Amidst all her fitness concerns, she did a splendid job in her first round. Unlike Coco, she didn’t lose her serve in the match, which can give Emma a lot of confidence going into round two.

Coco has had an unbeatable streak so far this year, winning the Auckland Open and now her first round in Melbourne. Emma is having a mediocre year so far, losing in the 2nd round of the Auckland Open. It will be an interesting context from the fans’ point of view. They are certain of an exciting second round in Melbourne on Wednesday.
