“It made the dream more believable!” Coco Gauff claims Venus and Serena Williams are the ‘major’ reason why she has won the US Open title
Gauff is now the youngest player to win the US Open title since 1999.

Out of many inspiring stories in the world of tennis, one of them is the 19-year-old Coco Gauff. The American teen created history by becoming one of the youngest players to win the US Open. She credited the Williams sisters as the main reason for her victory against the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.
“They’re the reason why I have this trophy today. They (Williams sisters) have allowed me to believe in this dream. Growing up, there weren’t too many Black tennis players dominating the sport. It was just them at the time that I can remember, and obviously more came because of their legacy,” said Coco Gauff in the post-match interview when she was asked to talk about her victory. She proudly acknowledged the role the Williams sisters played in her staggering journey to success.
Serena and Venus Williams have become synonymous with tennis in the modern era of sport. Their presence and achievements in the world of tennis have broken many social barriers. Highlighting the same Gauff further said, “ It made the dream more believable. All the things they had to go through, they made it easier for someone like me to do this. You look back at the history of Indian Wells with Serena, all she had to go through. Venus, fighting for equal pay. It’s crazy and it’s an honor to be in that same lineup as them.”

Coco Gauff speaks to mysterious boyfriend after the US Open win
Following Coco Gauff’s three-set victory against Aryna, she was seen sitting on her bench and talking to a mysterious person. Fans were intrigued to see the 19-year-old call someone and immediately speculated it to be her rumored boyfriend. Instead, it was revealed that Coco had called up her brother to share her happiness with.“I facetimed my brother right after but he didn’t answer. And then he called me later but I had to go,” said the exhilarated Coco.
However, she admitted to having spoken to her boyfriend hours till late at night before her final, which would have motivated her to go all the way.
Coco Gauff’s triumph, as exciting as it is, cannot be fully appreciated without acknowledging the trailblazing efforts of the Williams sisters. Their success, born out of sheer hard work and determination, paved an easier way for future generations to showcase their talents on a big stage. Coco is now one of the most promising youngsters in tennis and will surely achieve more incredible things in the years to come.
