Danish teen sensation Holger Rune is getting better with each passing day and has produced some very good results in the last few weeks. Latest, he stunned 7th seed Andrey Rublev in the Round of 16 of the Paris Masters in straight sets 6-4,7-5 and will now face World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinal.
Rune was absolutely spot-on with his baseline strokes against Rublev, whom he has been following for quite some time. After the match, Rune took to social media to reveal how big a Rublev fan he is and also shared that he copied his forehand when he was younger. He also expressed his joy over his good run and wished Rublev a great run in Turin.
“I am a huge Rublev fan. Copied his brutal forehand when I was younger. Today was special. Happy to be through to the QF and wish @AndreyRublev97 a great run in Turin,” Rune said.
Despite attitude issues, Holger Rune keeps rising
This indoor hard court season has been a breakthrough for Holger Rune. He won the Stockholm Open beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final and backed it up by a runner-up finish at the Swiss Indoors, losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final. In Bercy this week too, he has produced some very good results and he isn’t done yet. The credit for Rune’s sudden rise can also be given to Patrick Mouratoglou, who got associated with Rune just a few weeks back.
Amidst everything, his attitude continues to be a problem. Rune is believed to have a very poor on-court attitude which may go against sportsman spirit. Earlier this week, Stan Wawrinka pointed out his ‘childlike’ attitude and even gave him a lesson about it during their customary handshake.
