Corentin Moutet reveals his obsession with Rafael Nadal, recalls having dinner wearing the Spaniard’s headband and tank top
Corentin Moutet and Rafael Nadal
Corentin Moutet is one of the emerging talents on the ATP tour. He is improving with every match and every season. With his hard work and talent, he has been able to become a regular feature on the ATP tour and has advanced deeper into the tournaments.
He is also playing against top seeds. Despite continuous successes and pressure on the court, he has not forgotten his childhood idol-Rafael Nadal. He is still awestruck by him. He loves the 22-time Grand Slam champion and wishes to play like him.
In a new interview, he reminisced a hilarious anecdote about his unfathomable love and obsession for Rafael Nadal.
“I don’t remember if I slept with Nadal’s headband but I dined with it. I also thank my parents who accepted. They didn’t want me to leave the house with the tank top though, that’s why I slept with it. They said it was too ugly. I had a friend from Paris who was called Rafael and who looked like Nadal with his long hair and the tank top. It was my dream to play like that,” he said.
Corentin Moutet will get enough chances next season to play against Rafael Nadal and learn some tricks which can help him to win important matches, next season.
Way to Go: Corentin Moutet
Corentin Moutet has met with his idol Rafael Nadal only once this season. The French got a chance to play against the 22-time Grand Slam champion in the second round of the French Open. He defeated Stan Wawrinka in the first round. However, he could not defeat Rafael Nadal and was knocked out.
However, this may not be the last meeting between the two. Corentin Moutet has participated in the Australian Open, French Open, and the US Open. He even reached the fourth round of the US Open before losing out to Casper Ruud.
The Frenchman also reached the third round of the 2022 Paris Masters by defeating British player Cameron Norrie. But he could not continue his brilliant form against Stefanos Tsitsipas and lost. However, his performances helped him to reach the career of high-ranking World No.51.
But although he may have started to perform well on the court, he has to still learn many things from Rafael Nadal. He has been continuously fined, expelled, and disqualified for his bad behavior in court. The Spaniard has always maintained a sanguine personality on the court. Seldom he is involved in any controversies. If the Frenchman can keep himself cool in the heat of the moment, he can become a great challenger for top seeds.
