“Current ATP no.7 is still the best,” ATP comes in the firing line of Novak Djokovic fans as the Serb is locked in for the Year-End Championships

Novak Djokovic becomes the fifth player to qualify for the 2022 ATP Finals that are scheduled in Turin. The Serb received the confirmation of his qualification following his victory at the 2022 Astana Open in Kazakhstan at the ATP-500 event where he won his fourth title of the year.
Djokovic was up against Stefanos Tsitsipas, another qualified player for the Year-End Championships, in the finals in Astana and raced past the Greek in straight-sets to win his 9th consecutive match on the Tour. Djokovic has dropped only 1 set during this run with only Daniil Medvedev in Astana’s semi-finals managing to win a set against Djokovic.
“2022 ATP rankings are clearly flawed,”: Fans make a mockery of ATP following Novak Djokovic’s qualification
Djokovic now joins Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud and Tsitsipas for the year-end championships. While he was nearly qualified having won the 2022 Wimbledon title, he still needed to ensure a Top-20 finish which was sealed by his title win in Astana.
Djokovic is a 5-time champion at the ATP Finals and a 2-time runner-up. The second-most decorated winner behind Roger Federer‘s tally of 6 titles, the Serb will be a heavy favourite this year given the form he is in right now as compared to the other players within the draw.
Djokovic‘s fans however found the qualification the perfect opportunity to question ATP’s ranking system this year. Alcaraz sits at the top of the list with 6740 points which many found to be quite low for a World No. 1. The other issue of points removal from Wimbledon also affected the Serb’s ranking as he dropped from World No. 1 to World No. 7.
