Damir Dzumhur accuses Rafael Nadal of not helping fellow players and commends Novak Djokovic for uplifting all the players
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal
Damir Dzumhur has recently spoken highly about Novak Djokovic and has compared him to Rafael Nadal. Dzumhur, who hails from Bosnia and Herzegovina is a huge Djokovic fans and has shared his admiration for the Serbian maestro on multiple occasions. He recently revealed how Djokovic has helped a lot of players over the years whereas this trait is something Nadal cannot be associated with.
As quoted by journalist Luigi Gatto on Twitter, Dzumhur said that Djokovic not only supports players from his region, but tennis in general. According to Dzumhur, Djokovic works a lot towards the improvement of the ATP tour. He helps lesser known players and doesn’t bother what their rank is. Dzumhur further said that this aspect is something Nadal has never really shown in his career.
“Novak helps players a lot more, not just players from the former Yugoslavia, but tennis in general – he tries harder to help other players, to improve the ATP Tour, to improve the conditions for all players – not just for the top-100, but for those who are in the top-200, top-300, top-400. It’s something that I think Nadal has never really shown in his career,” he said.
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to play together in the Laver Cup
Djokovic and Nadal last competed at Roland Garros earlier this year where Nadal defeated his arch-rival in four sets and then went on to win the title. It was possible for both the greats to meet in the Wimbledon final but Nadal withdrew from the semifinal due to an injury and Djokovic eventually went on to win the title.
The two legends of the game will now be seen on the same team. They will represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup this week and it could be the possible that both Nadal and Djokovic could play doubles together.
