“The way he stretches it’s like watching a 14-year-old,” Dan Evans is highly impressed with fitness of Novak Djokovic
Dan Evans and Novak Djokovic
Tennis icon Novak Djokovic is an inspiration for many up-and-rising players out there. He can achieve the impossible, which many tennis players can only dream of. Despite bagging a record 21 Grand Slam titles, and a host of other tournaments in his almost two-decade-old career, the tennis great is still hungry for more.
Novak is famous for playing long rallies and wearing down his opponent. He can reach for the ball much more quickly compared to other players and can also pull off shots that are incredible to watch. One of the important reasons for his impeccable success on the court is his excellent fitness.
Dan Evans, the British No.2, is highly impressed with the fitness of Novak Djokovic. In the latest interview, he revealed his thoughts about the Serbian’s fitness. As per the British player, the 21-time Grand Slam champion has fitness levels compared to a 14-year-old boy and he looks like a “gymnast”.
“Novak was around and I saw him in the gym a bit and had a couple of chats with him. When you look at him in the gym, he looks like a gymnast – the way he stretches it’s like watching a 14-year-old. So if his body doesn’t break down he has to be in a great position,” he said.
Novak Djokovic will be playing in the inaugural edition of the World Tennis League in Dubai, UAE.
Novak Djokovic- Favorite to win the Australian Open 2023?
The Spaniard was not able to play at the 2022 Australian Open as he was disgracefully deported from Australia just a day before the start of the tournament. However, he did not give up and won 4 ATP singles titles and a Grand Slam title (2022 Wimbledon gentleman’s title) this season. These wins helped him to salvage a season that otherwise looked like going downhill in January 2022.
Now, however, the Serb got permission to visit and play in Australia. He has won the Australian Open title nine times in his career and would love to win it for the 10th time. Many former tennis players, current players, journalists, and commentators are considering Novak Djokovic as a hot favorite to win the first Grand Slam of the year. Dan Evans also thinks that the Serb has a better chance to win it this time as compared to 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard is the defending champion.
“He had just got confirmation that he can go to Australia and he is pretty pumped about it. When you look at how he finished the year, and his ranking with how little he played compared to others, he is definitely the favourite for Australia, and Nadal is probably second favourite,” he continued.
With that being said, it seems like tennis fans are absolutely thrilled to just have Novak Djokovic back in Australia. He will start his 2023 season by participating in the 2023 Adelaide International tournament.
