Daniil Medvedev defeated Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Vienna Open to close the gap on Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz for most matches won this year. The Russian player will now face Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals of the Vienna Open. Medvedev, being the top seed in the tournament, is the favorite to win it. 

The Russian is seemingly excited and optimistic about potentially beating Alcaraz in the battle for most matches won this year. 

I hope I can get one more, you never know. Tennis is a strong sport and we have strong opponents. So hopefully I can get one more win at least or maybe more. I have had an amazing season... But it's not finished yet, so I want to try to finish it even stronger.

Medvedev has had a pretty good season in 2023 and so far he has had the upper hand over Carlos Alcaraz this year. Moreover, his victory against the Spaniard in the 2023 US Open semifinal has seemingly broken his momentum, which is costing Alcaraz very dearly right now.

The Russian has come close to winning several titles this season but has been unfortunately unable to finish the task. Medvedev has a seriously great chance of winning a title in the 2023 Vienna Open and he must thus make it count.

Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov had a very intense battle in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Vienna Open, which went to the very last set. Medvedev won the first set but Khachanov made a comeback in the second set and it went on for very long. The Russian himself termed it a very ‘close’ match.

It was a very close match, so of course mentally you have to be strong and it was a long one. But at the end, one breaks each set. So I'm happy that I managed to make two, and he only made one.

Medvedev now faces Stefanos Tsitsipas next in the semifinals of the 2023 Vienna Open. In the other semifinal, Jannik Sinner will be facing Andrey Rublev. Thus, irrespective of the results of both these matches, the final is going to be sensational.
