Former World No. 1, Daniil Medvedev wasn’t out of touch with his funny side post-loss at the 2023 US Open. After the match, the Russian jokingly asked Novak Djokovic what he was still doing here following his defeat to the Serb in the US Open final. When asked in the on-court interview why the US Open brings out the best in him, he responded, “First of all I want to ask Novak, What are you still doing here?” This response drove the crowd at the Arthur Ashe Stadium to fit.

Following this response, he continued, “Jokes apart, what is this our third final? Maybe not the last hope so, because you are probably gonna be in many more.” He also joked that he was not sure when the 24-time Grand Slam Champion was planning to slow down a little bit. He followed this with heartfelt congratulations to both his opponent and his team.

Medvedev also addressed the Serb saying, “Congrats to you and your team.” The Russian also made a comparison between himself and Djokovic and said he had 20 titles overall and considers himself to have a ‘not a bad’ career. He didn’t fail to acknowledge that his opponent had 24 Grand Slams alone and that in itself was an incredible feat. This speech by the former World No.1 had fans in splits.

Nevertheless, Novak Djokovic does indeed have quite an impressive career. With a staggering total of 96 singles titles, the Serbian has established himself along with other greats in tennis. At 36 years old, the veteran player still manages to play his best tennis, regularly defeating upcoming younger players in their prime.
