Daniil Medvedev is glossing over the possibility that both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic may not be 100% fit for the French Open 2023. This can give the rest of the competition an immense advantage.

The Russian knows that if both or either of these two legends play at the Roland Garros, then they will definitely be considered favorites to win the tournament. However, he also thinks that both players will do everything in their strength to become completely fit before the French Open.

Well, that’s for sure. It’s like before the tournament here. It doesn’t change for me. If I’m able to play well and I reach the semifinal and then I see there is no Rafa or Novak, it changes. Although now Rafa is not as well ranked, I might meet him before, but for the time being, I believe Rafa will play the French Open, although I’m not in his body,” Daniil Medvedev said.

“I don’t want to talk for him. But he will be a favorite, even if he didn’t play before. He won 14 times this Grand Slam, so he will be the favorite. So it doesn’t change anything for me, but if I go far in the tournament, then the draw becomes easier if there are not those two guys who won 44 Grand Slams,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev is knocked out of the Monte-Carlo Masters 2023 after losing to Holger Rune in the Quarter-finals. The scoreline read 6-3, 6-4 in favor of the young Dane.

While Rafael Nadal was not playing in the Monte-Carlo Masters, Novak Djokovic was knocked out in the Round of 16 here. He lost to Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. However, still Daniil Medvedev failed to advance into the semi-final round of this competition.

Although, he did play well to beat Lorenzo Sonego and Alexander Zverev to reach the Quarter-finals on a surface that he hates, he could not surpass the challenge of Holger Rune. However, it is well short of the benchmarks he may have set for himself.

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev has decided to not play in this year’s Barcelona Open. However, he can return to Spain for the Madrid Open or head straight to Rome for the Italian Open.
