In a recent press conference, former world number 1 Daniil Medvedev opened up about the challenges he faces when competing on grass courts. The Russian ace also expressed his admiration for the extraordinary success achieved by Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on this surface.
Medvedev, who is known for his agility and flexibility on hard courts, admitted that grass presents a formidable obstacle for him. He expressed how playing on the grass courts can turn out to be so unpredictable “The grass is so difficult for me. You can play a perfect match and lose in two tie-breaks, that’s a bit strange to me.“
Daniil Medvedevâs remarks shed light on the complexities of tennis as a sport, and how different courts have their own nuances, and where even a slight misjudgment or stroke can completely overturn the result of the game.
The US Open champion expressed his awe over players like Djokovic and Federer. He acknowledged the duo’s ability to consistently evolve their game on grass, which has allowed them to accumulate numerous titles at prestigious tournaments such as Wimbledon and Halle. He even termed them as âaliensâ for their otherworldly performance at the grass courts.
“When I see the records of players like Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, I think they are aliens, but you try to see the best in them, and how they are able to evolve on this surface, where it is sometimes difficult to beat anybody, to have so many titles, Wimbledon, Halle, etc⌠It’s just amazing and that’s what I try to watch.“

Daniil Medvedev among Russian and Belarussian Players to watch out for at Wimbledon
The All England Club put up a ban on the Russian and Belarussian players last year ever since Russia invaded Ukraine. But this year as the Club lifts its ban, the players will be allowed to participate under some conditions.
The athletes will be competing as âneutral athletes’. They will have to agree to not support the Russian and Belarussian regimes and states and they should not be receiving any funds as well as sponsorship from companies operating under these regimes.
Following all these, the tennis world is eagerly anticipating the participation of certain well-known players. Russian players like Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Daria Kasatkina are the top-ranked player who is likely to play this season. Belarussian player Aryna Sabalenka, who is often known as one of the âbig threeâ of womenâs tennis is also likely to feature. Fans and critics will closely observe the performances of all these top players.
