The world No.3 Daniil Medvedev is currently participating in the Shanghai Masters in China. However interestingly, during his on-court interview, Medvedev was seen complaining about the speed of the court in Shanghai.
The 27-year-old, who is known for his powerful baseline game, expressed his frustration over the fluctuating pace of the courts, calling for greater consistency in playing conditions.
Medvedev’s displeasure is shared by many of his contemporaries, who are also concerned that frequent changes in court speed can impair their performance. They contend that a more stable climate would allow them to demonstrate their abilities more frequently and produce tennis matches of great quality.
That’s not all; he further expressed his concern by stating that before in Beijing he played on one of the fastest courts and now he has to play on one of the slowest. The Russian compared the courts of Shanghai to Indian Wells which is also known to be a very slow-paced court.
He said, “It’s not easy to play two tournaments in a row: the balls are different here, the surface is different. Previously, in Shanghai, the courts were among the fastest on the circuit, and now I don’t even know where it is the slowest – here or in Indian Wells. But you can’t do anything about it, I have to play. This season I performed well even on a hard and slow pitch. Now I will try to do it in Shanghai “
The Russian tennis star still managed to bring out his best performance as he defeated his opponent, Cristian Garin, in straight sets. He will now face American player Sebastian Korda in the round of 32.
Medvedev’s previous complaints about slow courts
This year, while participating in the Indian Wells tournament, Daniil Medvedev complained about the slow speed of the court. The former world No. 1 was battling against Ilya Ivashka to secure a spot in the fourth round of the tournament against Alexander Zverev.

He was frustrated with the court conditions and argued with the umpire about the same. The former US Open champion said to the umpire, “The court is slow, so I go slow.” Before taking his toilet break, he remarked that he would take as long as 25 minutes as the court conditions were also very slow.
However, despite his complaining, the Russian for the first time reached the finals of the Indian Wells but unfortunately lost the title to Carlos Alcaraz.
