Russian tennis ace Daniil Medvedev lost an opportunity to win his second Grand Slam title, yet again. The 27-year-old Russian lost his second Australian Open final as Italian ace Jannik Sinner defeated Medvedev at the 2024 Australian Open Final. The Russian lost the match in five sets, despite winning the first two sets. Medvedev then apologized to his wife and daughter after the defeat.
The Russian ace said that he felt they were with him. He then apologized for not winning it and promised that he would make up for this loss next time.
I don’t know if they turned off the TV, but Dasha, Alisa, if you’re watching, it felt like you were there with me. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it today. But I’m gonna try to make it work next time for you.Daniil Medvedev said.
Daniil Medvedev misses out on an opportunity, yet again!
It was a missed opportunity for Daniil Medvedev as he could not win his second Grand Slam title. Since his first major title, Medvedev has reached three Grand Slam finals and has lost in all three. While he lost twice at the Australian Open, Medvedev lost one US Open final.
In the 2022 Australian Open final, the Russian lost in a similar fashion to Rafael Nadal. There too, Medvedev was leading after two sets but ended up losing the match. At the 2023 US Open final, he was completely blown away by Novak Djokovic in three sets.
Now, the World No.3 looked tired midway through the match against Sinner. After claiming the first two sets, Medvedev lost his gas as Sinner’s big forehand troubled him a lot. The Russian could not return Sinner’s shots like he was doing in the first two sets. Although he won eleven games in the last three sets, Medvedev did not look in his element.
Medvedev was visibly disappointed after missing out on another opportunity to win his second Grand Slam title. Hopefully, he will land another major title soon.
